Skimming a cash drawer of excess cash

Skimming a cash drawer is an essential process that allows for the removal of excess cash while ensuring proper tracking within the system. The steps involved may vary depending on the type of establishment.

For bar environments:

  1. Login to the Order Screen.
  2. Select the "Skim Drawer" option.
  3. Choose the appropriate employee from the list and tap on the corresponding row (Total Cash, Ttl Deposit, or Drop).
  4. Enter the skim amount, such as "$150", by typing "00".
  5. Select "Done".
  6. Verify the drop amount, save the changes, and exit the process.

For cashier transactions in quick-service environments:

  1. From the ID Screen, tap on "Manager Menu" and then select "Sales Audit".
  2. Tap on "Skim Cash Drawer".
  3. Tap the "0.00's" next to the cashier's name.
  4. Enter the skim amount.
  5. Verify the skim amount and save it. Remember to paperclip the cash and printed skim slip before placing them in the safe. Note that if the skim is not saved, it will not be recorded.

Adding a "Skim Drawer" function button to the order screen:

    1. Access Managers Menu > Register Setup > Terminal Configuration > Edit Order Screen Buttons.
    2. Assign "Skim Drawer" to a button. If buttons are already assigned, left-click to remove one and select an empty column.

Setting a maximum cash amount for the drawer (alerting a manager to remove the excess cash):

Enable this option to set a maximum cash limit for the drawer in MicroSale. When the cash reaches this amount, a red message prompts "Please skim drawer" on the Order screen.

    1. Access Managers Menu > Register Setup > Terminal Configuration > Register Options > Printing / Cash Drawer > Advanced Options.
    2. Look for "Drawer skim cash amount (alert manager to remove excess cash)."
    3. Enable the option and set the maximum cash limit. When the drawer reaches this amount, a red message prompts "Please skim drawer" on the order screen. This works with any cash drawer-utilizing application.
