MicroSale’s self-hosted gift card program offers flexibility for single or multiple locations, allowing cards to function as stored-value, house accounts, or corporate meal cards.
1. Gift Card Setup

Creating a Gift Card Tender Button
- Go to Managers Menu > Register Setup > Terminal Configuration > Tender Setup.
- Name it “Gift Card Redeem,” tick House Account, and save.

Creating a Gift Card Menu Button
- Go to Menu Maintenance > Menu Items and Pricing.
- Name the item (e.g., “Gift Card”), link it to Gift Certificate department, set as open price, and remove sales tax.
- In Button Layout, select and assign “Gift Card” from unassigned buttons.
2. Selling and Redeeming Gift Cards

Selling a Gift Card
- Go to the order screen, select Gift Card category, enter price, and tap Done.
- Process payment (e.g., cash, credit; avoid gift card tender here).
- Swipe to activate the gift card.

Redeeming a Gift Card
- Complete order and select Gift Card on payment screen.
- Enter specific amount (if not full balance) and swipe the card.

Checking Balance
- From order screen, select Gift Card Balance and swipe the card.
3. Managing Gift Card Balances

Transferring Balances
- Go to Managers Menu > Gift Certificate House Account > Utilities > Edit Account Balance.
- Deduct from original card; add credit to the new card.

Modifying Balances
- Administrator Access Required:
- Go to Edit Account Balance to adjust for balance discrepancies.
- Modify in Register Options > Misc Functions > Edit Account Data.

4. Additional Gift Card Options

Expiration Dates
- Go to Menu Maintenance > Menu Items and Pricing. Set expiration period based on activation or sale date.

Promotional Gift Cards
- Discount or comp gift cards for events, but retain full activation balance.
5. Exporting and Accounting

Exporting Gift Card Balances
- Go to Managers Menu > Gift Certificate House Account > Utilities > Create Export File.
- File saved in C://Program Files (x86)/Micro$ale/Account Export/HouseAccount.TXT.

Bookkeeping
- Sales: Gift card sales are recorded as "Non-sales revenue" for future goods.
- Redemption: Gift card use appears as “non-cash tender.”
