UI Improvements: Menu Items & Pricing

Shortcut buttons and additional setup buttons
Shortcut buttons (such as getting to the button layout, modifier setup screen, etc), have all been moved to a toolbar at the top of the screen to make it easier to find. Function buttons such as creating ride tickets, setting up recipes, etc., are all listed at the bottom of the screen with a uniform look.
Basic Menu Item Details
- The filters now have the appearance of buttons with a filter icon to better show the functionality
- Field captions are now all located above the field make it faster to find what you need
- “Make Menu Item Open Price” is now labeled “Use Open Price”. The option is located directly under the price to make it easier to understand
- The tax options are now consolidated in one area; combining the checkboxes and tax rate tables together makes it easier to see if an item is taxed and assigned tax rates
- “Set as Open Modifier” has been moved from the Additional Options area to the basic item area since this option directly affects the behavior of the menu item
- The Set as Open Modifier option turns the menu item into a “bridge” to get to the modifier groups assigned to the item name. It is “Open” in the sense that the modifiers can be added to any entered menu item. Typically, modifier groups are assigned to specific menu items
- The option, “Scale Price” has also been moved from the Additional Options area; the Tare Weight option is now also available directly under the checkbox since these two options go together. When Scale Price is enabled, the Regular Price acts as the price of 1-unit (oz, lb, etc).
Restrictions
Checkbox options pertaining to restricting how the menu item works has been consolidated to this section.
- Previously the “Menu Item Always Available” option was placed with the timed events. The option is now called, “Item always available for sale” along with a tip underneath the option, labeled “Uncheck to only allow item to be sold during assigned timed events”
- Other restrictions include whether or not the item can be discounted, if the item can be freely entered (or restricted to only be available with a scanner), if the item expires (once expired, item cannot be rang in), and who has access to enter the item on a check
Modifier Group Assignments
The modifier group assignment area has been reworked to make it easier to comprehend. Changes include reorganization, added headers, and tips. Tips and helpful notes are shown in gray text throughout the screen.
- The “Use with modify item” option has been moved from the right side to the left side. This option controls whether or not the modifier group immediately prompts, so there is now more emphasis on the option.
Printer Routing
All options pertaining to printing are now consolidated together.
- Instead of the repetitive captions of “Remote Printer #1”, “Remote Printer #2”, etc., it lists one header with the printer assignment number to the left of the field
- Some users were confused by the “None” placeholder; below the Remote Printer fields, it now shows “Keep unused fields at “None”. When the same printer name is used in all fields, it causes the menu item to print multiple times
Shift Levels
The fields under shift levels have been reorganized to make the section clearer.
- The prefix name (Prefix Size), Price, and Mod Level are now shown together. Previously, the Mod Level was listed at the end. The Mod Level references the price levels attached to the main modifier groups assigned to the menu item (upper right corner of the screen).
- The Modifier Group Name is now shown at the end and separately from the “Mod Level”, since these two options do not pertain to one another. A tip of, “When you assign a modifier group to a shift, main modifier groups are not used”. This was added to instruct the user that when the Modifier Group Names are blank in the shift level area, the main modifier groups are used.
Miscellaneous Options and Misc. Menu Functions
Less common options are grouped together in Miscellaneous Options.
- Helpful tips have been added to make some of the options more understandable and to prevent possible errors in setup.
- Price Adjustment for to go: tip now includes, “Adjusts the price for phone orders and go orders”. The price adjustment can be a positive or negative value. For example, if you want to make a Coke twenty-five cents less for to-go, you would type in -.25 to adjust the Regular Price down.
- Product Inventory vs. Number Available has caused confusion in the past; under Product Inventory, it includes the tip, “Used for counts only”. Number Available includes the tip, “Countdown to 86”. While Product Inventory is used for simplistic counts, the Number Available means that there is a limited number of available items. The Number Available is typically used for specials where the system will offer a warning with the count is low as well as disable the item from being entered when the count hits zero
- Charge by time interval was previously labeled, “Item Charge by Item (rental)". This option now includes the tip, “set the regular price for 1 minute". Timer starts when item is entered. Touch item again to stop. Item cannot be paused”. This option is typically used for pool table rentals for table rentals during special events.
