About Delivery Zones
Keeping Drivers Happy
You can set an optional, automated setting for drivers to receive a portion of the delivery charge. The driver's share can be a flat amount per delivery or a percentage split between the driver and the restaurant.
Setting up Delivery Zones
WARNING!
It's important to create a delivery zone for each of your delivery boundaries. Otherwise, the system will not allow customers to place an order if it's outside your area of delivery (as it assumes you do not want to accept deliveries that fall outside of your set criteria).
Step 1: Create Delivery Zones
- Create a service charge (delivery fee) for each zone, naming it logically for customer clarity.
- This service charge name appears on the customer’s receipt.
- Choose Charge Amount or Charge Percentage (Charge Amount is a $ amount while Charge Percentage charges a % of the check total).
- Set the fee in the Amount field
- In the example, delivery is $2.00 for Zone 1. Zone 1’s parameters will be defined in the following section
- Set the Access Level low so that the fee automatically adds to delivery orders. Set this to Cashier or Cook.
- Set the Category to Service Charge. All other areas on this screen should be left as is (at the default settings)
- Save when complete
Example Setup:
Step 2: Creating and attaching a Zone Description
This descriptive boundary or zone name is ONLY used internally to help staff understand the delivery fee. Its to further define an assigned delivery fee. In the example below, Zone 1 (the service charge, or delivery fee) is assigned to the description "1-5 MILES".
This is in the same discounts area (Managers Menu > Discounts Gratuity Maintenance)
- Select Discount Events
- Under Discount Events, enter a descriptive name for the zone, e.g., "0-2 Miles" into the top field.
- Link this descriptive name to the service charge (delivery fee) by checking the option box next to the appropriate fee.
- For example, you can type in 0-2 Miles if the $2.00 Zone 1 covers 0-2 miles from your restaurant (or 0-5 minutes, etc). **You will set the actual parameters in the next part of this guide**
- Save
Step 3: Setting Zone Parameters
**you only need to set this on one register**
Go to Managers Menu > Register Setup > Terminal Configuration > Register Options > Phone Orders
- Enable Drive Directions (activates Google Maps, if you are subscribed to the integration module)
- Enable Delivery Charge.
- Set Driver Payment Amount if sharing with the driver (not a tip). Type in an amount in the Driver Payment Amount area (under Enable Delivery Charge) This amount is deducted from the automated "delivery fee” or “delivery charge". This is not a tip! If you share a percentage, such as 50% of the fee with the driver, type in 50. If you share a dollar amount, type in a number with a decimal such as 2.00 or 2.25. Without the decimal, the system thinks it’s a percentage so 2 is 2% or 50.00 is $50.00
- Select the dropdown next to Zone Setup and choose the appropriate Zone Description (this links the parameters to the service charge/delivery fee that is assigned to the Zone Description).
- Choose Zoned by Miles or Minutes
- Select the dropdown next to Start and End Choose the appropriate starting number and ending number.
For your first zone, start at 0. (You may have customers less than 1 mile (or 1 minute) from your location).
Note: with multiple zones, such as 0-3 miles, 4-5 miles, 6-8 miles, etc., and the customer's address is greater than the cutoff, the delivery fee falls into the next zone (example: a customer's house is 3.2 miles away, the delivery fee will fall into the 4-5 mile zone). - Select Save Zone
- Exit (upper right corner of screen on toolbar)
*Note: If you've followed the steps correctly, the system will automatically add the delivery fee for orders falling within your saved zones. Customers outside these zones will receive an 'out of area' prompt.*
