Most likely, the register option, "Prints What When Closing an Open Check" is set to "Prints Nothing".
To change:
Manager Menu -> Register Setup -> Terminal Configuration -> Register Options ->Printing/Cash Drawer->Advanced Options -> Receipt Printer Setup ->Prints What when closing an open check -> change setting to Receipt
