Certification
MicroSale is certified through the NTEP National Conference on Weights and Measures, utilizing KIS Software, Inc. model MicroSale version 6.1.210 and subsequent versions. The attached certification letter provides detailed information.
Compatible Scales
MicroSale is compatible with any NTEP certified 30 lb x 0.01 lb non-computing scale with a serial interface. Recommended scales include CAS SW-10, CAS SW-20, Avery 6700, Mettler Toledo, and Cardinal Detecto. CAS scales are preferred for their ease of use.
Alternatively to the integrated scale, you can hand-key weights into MicroSale. This feature works through a "quantity prompt", where the item's unit price is multiplied by the manually entered quantity (or weight listed on the scale).

Setting up Tare Weights and Creating Weighted Items
This section only needs to be followed for restaurants that use weighted items with an integrated scale, such as frozen yogurt, ice cream, deli meats or candy. MicroSale is NTEP certified by the National Conference on Weights and Measures. Using MicroSale with your scale will ensure accuracy, save time, and guarantees you meet national standards.
ID Screen > Menu Maintenance > Tare Weights
Weighing Containers
- Prior to setting up tare weights in MicroSale, individually weigh each container to be used for scalable items.
- Note down the name of each container and its respective weight. This value will be deducted when calculating the weight of the item.
Setting up Multi Tare Weights (For Multiple Items on the Scale)
To ring in multiple items on the scale at once using multiple tare weights, you must complete the following setup. If you only have one tare weight, you can ring in multiple items without using the Multi feature.
- Create a tare named "Multi" (ensure it is named exactly "Multi").
- Set the tare weight to -2.00 (negative 2) and Save
- After creating the "Multi" prefix, create container names with "Multi" in front (e.g., Multi Cup, Multi Cone).
- Save each Multi Container Name with the appropriate tare weight.
- The term "Multi" in front of the container names enables proper deduction of tare weights from the menu item. If you have only one tare or container, you can skip setting up the Multi feature.
Creating a Menu Item
- In the Menu Items and Pricing Screen, create a menu item. Refer to the Menu Items chapter in the manual if you need more information.
- Provide a Menu Item Name (e.g., Frozen Yogurt).
- Choose the appropriate Category, Department, and Printer.
- Set the Regular Price to the unit price. For instance, if the item is $0.53 per ounce, enter $0.53.
- In the Tare Weight (scale) field, use the dropdown menu and select the corresponding container (e.g., Waffle Cone, Bowl).
- Timed Events: Timed events can be used with scaled menu items, affecting the base price.
- Shift Levels: Shift pricing cannot be used with scale items.
- Item Consolidation on Receipt: Consolidation is disabled for scale items on receipts.
- Order Screen Buttons: Specific functionalities exist for items not using the scale interface, such as "Change Item," "QTY," and "Repeat Item."
- Error Message for Empty Scale: If an item is selected without placing anything on the scale, an error message will prompt, "Scale not Ready, Please Try again."
