Departments are global group names assigned to each menu item. Departments are used in nearly all reports so restaurants can see Food sales VS Alcohol sales.

    1. Understanding Sales Breakdown: Global **Departments** categorize menu items and are essential for reports comparing Food and Alcohol sales. Daily Balance Report outlines sales by broad **Departments** such as Beer, Beverage, Food, Liquor, Wine, providing a detailed product mix breakdown.
    2. Customizing Department Structure: MicroSale enables customization of **Department** structure. Consider suggested structures:
      • Restaurants with Alcohol: Food, Alcohol, NA Drinks
      • Restaurants without Alcohol: Food, Drinks
      • Full Bar: Food, Non-Alcoholic Drinks, Beer, Wine, Liquor
      • Miscellaneous: Add Misc. or Merchandise department for various items.
      Adapt suggestions to your restaurant's unique requirements.
    3. Daily Sale Mix Report: The Daily Sale Mix (Daily Product Mix) report categorizes sold items by **Category/Subcategory**. Note: "Category" and "Subcategory" are interchangeable for reporting purposes. They only differ in menu creation, where you can "embed" subcategory buttons within main category screens.

There are typically less than four departments per menu; Keep in mind, menu items are also grouped by category (appetizers, entrees, etc.), so the departments will be broad. Departments for restaurants with alcohol are typically Food, Alcohol, and NA Drinks. Restaurants without alcohol are typically Food and Drinks.
