If your restaurant uses a scale to measure items like frozen yogurt, deli meats, or candy, MicroSale’s NTEP certification can save you time and help you meet national standards. To set up Tare Weights, follow these steps:
- Access Tare Weights Section
- Go to ID Screen Menu Maintenance Tare Weights.
- Weigh Your Containers
- Weigh each container that you’ll use for measuring items on your scale. The weight of these containers will be subtracted to determine the item’s net weight.
- Step-by-Step Setup:
- Enter the container names and their respective weights in the provided fields. These weights will be subtracted during measurement.
- In the Menu Items and Pricing Screen, create a menu item (if you haven’t done this yet).
- Name the menu item, e.g., “Frozen Yogurt.”
- Choose the appropriate Category, Department, and Printer.
- Set the Regular Price to the price for one unit of measurement, for instance, if your restaurant charges $0.53 per ounce, enter $0.53.
- In the Tare Weight (scale) field, select the corresponding container from the dropdown menu, like “Waffle Cone” or “Bowl.”
To ring in multiple items at once on the scale with different tare weights, follow these additional steps:
- Set Up Multi Tare:
- Create a tare named “Multi.”
- Set the tare weight to -2.00 (negative 2).
- Save.
- Create Multi Containers:
- Add the word “Multi” in front of container names, e.g., “Multi Cup” or “Multi Cone.”
- Save each Multi Container Name with the appropriate tare weight.
- Use “Multi” for Multiple Items:
- In the Menu Items and Pricing Screen, when creating a menu item, select “Multi” in the Tare Weight (scale) field.
These steps allow the scale to correctly deduct the tare weights when weighing items. If you only have one tare weight or container, you can skip the Multi feature setup. After completing the tare weights and container names, go to Menu Items and Pricing, create your menu items, and set the Regular Price accordingly.
