MicroSale's Ohio Tax Compliance
Are you an Ohio-based business owner seeking a POS system that not only optimizes your operational efficiency but also adeptly manages the complexities of Ohio's tax regulations?
MicroSale is meticulously crafted to cater to Ohio's unique tax regulations, particularly in the realm of tax management for sodas, sugared items, and exemptions for dine-in food orders, eliminating manual errors and streamlining your tax management process.
- MicroSale distinguishes between various order types, such as dine-in, take-out, catering and delivery. This functionality empowers you to apply specific tax rules tailored to the nature of each transaction by automating tax calculations based on items ordered and order type.
- Transparency: Provides clear and transparent communication to customers regarding tax charges on their receipts.
Setup
Identify Taxable and Exempt Items:
Clearly define items that are subject to sales tax (e.g., sodas, sugar items) and those that are exempt (e.g., dine-in food orders) and assign the appropriate tax rate (including any additional local rates), so that the system knows which items are taxed and not.
Certain items are always taxed, regardless of order type;
- Sodas sold as individual items and sodas used in the modifiers (for combos) are set to the standard tax table (Standard Tax Table 1). Meaning, regardless of the order type (dine-in, drive-thru, etc.), the set tax of 7.25% is always charged, while excluding water, a cup ice, and unsweetened tea.
- All food items (and modifiers) are set to Special Tax 1, allowing tax to automatically toggle on or off based on the order type.
- The tax table shows Tax Table = 0, Spec Tax = 1
- Set in Menu Items and Pricing and in Modifier Setup
Creating the tax rules:
Apply Tax Rules Based on Order Type:
Configure the system to apply the appropriate tax rules based on the order type. For dine-in orders, the system should recognize the tax exemption for food items.
Create Tax Exemptions for Dine-In Orders:
- Implement a tax exemption or reduction for dine-in food orders.
- Special Tax 1 is renamed as Dine In (Dine In label appears on customer receipts)
- Min – Max Set to .01 – 9999.99
- Assigned tax exceptions for take out, drive-thru, etc.
