The Tax Exemption function is a valuable tool designed for customers eligible for tax-exempt purchases. It allows you to exempt tax on specific items or the entire check using the same function button.
How to Remove the Tax on an Item or Entire Check
- After entering all items on the check, tap Tax Exempt.
You will encounter the following prompts:
Exempting Single Items:
First Prompt: “Exempt Sales Tax for Single Item?” Answer Yes or No.
If exempting one or more individual items, tap Yes, then tap the items on the virtual check.
Exempting Entire Check:
If exempting the entire check, tap No.
A follow-up prompt will ask, “Exempt Sales Tax for Entire Check?” Tap Yes.
Creating an item that is always tax exempt:
Managers Menu - Menu Maintenance - Menu Items and Pricing
- Type in a menu item name
- Use the drop-downs to select the appropriate category and department name
- Type in a regular price
- If this item needs to print in the kitchen, select Turn on Remote Printing and select Kitchen in the Remote Printer #1 box
- Uncheck the option, “Menu Item is Taxable”
- Select Save. You can also save it and make changes at a later time
Adding a Tax Exempt button to your system:
- Managers Menu - Register Setup - Terminal Configuration - Edit Order Screen Buttons - Add Tax Exempt to a button and Save - Exit
- Function buttons deploy to all terminals
Setting a workstation to tax exempt all items/sales
This option removes the tax on all items sold on the workstation with this option enabled, ignoring all tax on menu items (standard and/or special tax)
(Register Options -> Menu/Modifier Setup -> Terminal Is Tax Exempt)Setting Specific Order Destinations as Tax Exempt:
- Manager Menu - Register Setup - Sales Tax Setup - Special Sales Tax Area - Set the Tax Rate - Select exception from drop-down (Go Order in this case) - Save.
- Assign the special tax rate level to the menu item in the Special Sales Tax drop down list
